APS Damana Hosts Transformative Two-Day CBSE Capacity Building Programme on Inclusive Education

Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu: DD, “Inclusion is not bringing people into what already exists; it is making a new space, a better space for everyone.”

Army Public School Damana, in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence (COE), Chandigarh, hosted a dynamic two-day Capacity Building Program on 1st and 2nd August 2025 in the AV Room of the School. The purpose of the workshop was to create awareness about Inclusive Education and equip educators with effective strategies to address diverse learning needs in the classroom.

The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Principal, Mrs. Pushpinder Kaur, Vice Principal, Mrs. Shallu Kapoor and HM, Mrs. Anurita Koul, alongside the esteemed Resource Persons. A soulful welcome song performed by the students of APS Damana added grace and vibrancy to the opening ceremony.
The insightful sessions were conducted by two accomplished Resource Persons: Mrs. Geeta Sharma, Principal, Army Public School, Akhnoor and a recognised CBSE Resource Person, who addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of inclusive practices in achieving holistic development for every learner. Her extensive experience and insights provided valuable guidance to all attendees. Mr. Ashish Anand, Special Educator, Army Public School, Jammu Cantt and a professional registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India since 2014, conducted engaging and practical sessions. He spoke in depth about implementing inclusive strategies in real classroom settings and addressed the specific needs of students with disabilities.
Over the course of the two days, 56 teachers from various CBSE-affiliated schools actively participated in a series of interactive and hands-on activities. These included group discussions, scenario-based problem-solving and the sharing of classroom experiences related to inclusion.
The workshop aimed to sensitize educators to individual differences among students and promote flexible teaching methods. Through interactive activities, participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into inclusive education. It provided a platform for exchanging ideas, addressing challenges and committing to inclusive approaches in classrooms. The sessions were well-received, with participants expressing gratitude for the meaningful learning experience, and feedback or takeaways were shared by all attendees after the session.
Adding to the significance of the occasion, Mrs Pushpinder Kaur, Principal of the School, emphasized that inclusive education is not just a requirement but a moral responsibility. She commended the educators for their steadfast dedication to fostering learning environments where every child feels valued, respected and supported. In her address, Vice Principal, Mrs. Shallu Kapoor lauded the commitment of educators toward inclusive teaching and encouraged them to carry forward the learnings into their classrooms.
The vote of thanks was extended by Mrs Rimpy Thaploo, PRT to all the attendees, participants and contributors who made the programme a resounding success. The event ended on a patriotic and unifying note with the recitation of the National Anthem. The Workshop culminated on an optimistic note, reaffirming the shared belief that inclusive education is not merely a policy but a transformative practice—one that begins with empathy, adaptability and the conviction that every child has the potential to learn and thrive.DD
