Srinagar, TDD,A bone-chilling cold wave has gripped Kashmir and Ladakh, sending temperatures plummeting and freezing water bodies, including the iconic Dal Lake.

Zojila recorded the season’s lowest temperature at an icy -24.0°C, while Shopian and Anantnag shivered at -10.0°C and -9.9°C, respectively.

Tourist hotspots Pahalgam and Gulmarg saw freezing lows of -8.2°C and -6.0°C, while Srinagar recorded its coldest night of the season at -6.2°C. In Ladakh, Kargil and Leh faced the harsh winter chill at -13.8°C and -11.8°C, respectively.

The intense cold wave has disrupted daily life, freezing water supply lines in several areas. However, the icy landscapes have drawn tourists to Kashmir, eager to experience its snow-covered beauty.

Experts attribute the freezing temperatures to clear skies and previous snowfall, with colder conditions predicted in the coming weeks. (TDD)
