Rajouri, DD: Security forces have been placed on high alert in the Sunderbani area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district after terrorists opened fire on an Indian Army patrol vehicle on Monday afternoon.
The attack occurred near Phall village along the Sunderbani-Malla road, close to the Line of Control (LoC).
According to official sources, suspected militants fired one or two rounds at a patrol vehicle of the 9 JAK Rifles around 1:00 PM. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Following the attack, the Army and local security forces immediately launched a massive cordon-and-search operation in the area to track down the assailants. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to prevent any further escalation.
The Sunderbani sector is known as a traditional infiltration route for militants, and security forces have been on heightened alert in the region. Intelligence agencies had recently warned of possible terror movements along the LoC, prompting increased vigilance.
While the identity and affiliation of the attackers remain unclear, officials suspect that the incident could be linked to cross-border terrorist infiltration attempts.
The attack comes amid heightened security measures across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Indian Army, along with J&K Police and paramilitary forces, has intensified counter-insurgency operations to prevent any attempts to disrupt peace in the region.
Further updates are awaited as search operations continue.(DD)
