Srinagar,(DD): The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, Asia’s largest tulip garden, is set to open for visitors on March 26, marking the beginning of Kashmir’s vibrant spring season. Located in the foothills of the Zabarwan Range, overlooking the Dal Lake, the garden is a major tourist attraction, drawing thousands of visitors each year.

Authorities have confirmed that this year’s floral display will be the largest ever, with over 17 lakh tulip bulbs of 74 varieties in full bloom. In addition to tulips, the garden will also feature a variety of other flowers, including hyacinths, daffodils, muscari, and cyclamens, creating a stunning multi-colored landscape.

Officials expect a record number of tourists this year, surpassing the 4.65 lakh visitors in 2024. The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department has been actively promoting the event as part of its efforts to boost tourism and local businesses.

“The tulip garden has become an essential part of Kashmir’s spring tourism. We are expecting a significant increase in the number of visitors this year,” said an official from the Floriculture Department.

Authorities have undertaken major renovations to enhance the visitor experience. Improvements include better pathways, seating arrangements, and upgraded lighting to accommodate both day and evening visits. Security measures and traffic management plans have also been put in place to ensure smooth movement of tourists.

The garden will be officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with senior officials from the Tourism and Floriculture Departments.

The tulip bloom lasts for approximately three to four weeks, depending on weather conditions. Visitors are being encouraged to plan their trips early to witness the garden in its full glory.

With tulips of various colors set against the backdrop of the Dal Lake and snow-capped mountains, the garden promises to offer an unforgettable visual experience. The event is expected to give a major boost to tourism in the region, benefiting hoteliers, local vendors, and the overall economy.

For nature lovers and travel enthusiasts, the Tulip Garden Festival remains a must-visit attraction, capturing the essence of Kashmir’s breathtaking spring season.(DD)
