Srinagar, (TDD): The President of the World Crafts Council (WCC), Europe Region, Prof. Aftab Ganda today showered glowing praise on the artists and craftsmanship of Kashmir, calling it “inspiring” for their remarkable contributions to preserving cultural heritage.
Speaking at the 60th Jubilee celebrations of the WCC, held at the picturesque Shere Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) on the serene banks of Dal Lake, Prof. Ganda expressed admiration for Srinagar’s globally renowned crafts.
“We have been participating in several forums to commemorate 60 years of WCC, and the craftsmanship here is truly extraordinary—an embodiment of Srinagar’s rich heritage and timeless history. It is heartening to see this city celebrated as a World Craft City,” he remarked.
Srinagar, a jewel of traditional art, has earned international acclaim for its exquisite Pashmina shawls, masterfully woven carpets, and unique papier-mâché creations. Joining the prestigious list of WCC-recognized cities, it stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of its artisans and their dedication to preserving age-old traditions.
The 60th-anniversary celebrations of the WCC, established in 1964, provided an engaging platform to honor the diversity of crafts across member regions and discuss innovative strategies to protect the livelihoods of artisans in a rapidly evolving world.
