Awareness workshop on Social Welfare Schemes organised at JU

Jammu, DD,The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, in collaboration with Mission Shakti, Social Welfare Department, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Jammu, organized an awareness workshop on social welfare schemes for postgraduate students and research scholars from various university departments.

Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, welcomed the participants and highlighted the objective behind organizing the workshop. She emphasized that despite being educated, many individuals remain unaware of the numerous welfare schemes designed for different sections of society. She stressed the importance of disseminating this information widely so that people can access these benefits to improve their social status and support others.

Ms. Khushboo Kapthe, Gender Specialist at Mission Shakti, Social Welfare Department, Jammu, served as the resource person. She elaborated on the role of Mission Shakti as a coordinating agency between people and institutions. She provided detailed insights into various schemes, including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, self-employment initiatives, services for women in distress, and skill development courses—some offered free of cost and others at a minimal fee.

Ms. Shagun Manchanda, another resource person, also spoke about the welfare department’s efforts in implementing various schemes aimed at empowering girls and women. She underscored Mission Shakti’s commitment to ensuring access to opportunities for their growth and development.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students and gender champions from different departments, who actively engaged in discussions and posed queries, all of which were addressed to their satisfaction.

Dr. Saranjit Kaur coordinated and conducted the workshop, while Ms. Kunzang Angmo, both faculty members of the Centre for Women’s Studies, delivered the formal vote of thanks.DD
