Baramulla,(DD):In a move aimed at ensuring public safety and environmental protection, the District Administration of Baramulla has imposed a temporary ban on the use of firecrackers in densely populated areas of the district from June 6 to June 9, in the run-up to Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.

The order was issued by District Magistrate Minga Sherpa (IAS) following a formal request by the General Secretary of Auqaf Islamia Khanpora. The appeal highlighted the health risks, potential fire hazards, and environmental concerns associated with the use of fireworks, particularly in the Khanpora area of Baramulla town.

“Firecracker use in congested localities during festivals poses serious risks to public health, contributes to air and noise pollution, and can trigger accidental fires,” the order notes. “To safeguard life, property, and the environment, a ban is necessary during this period of increased festivity.”

Invoking Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), the District Magistrate has directed that no individual or group shall burst firecrackers in or around densely populated areas of Baramulla between June 6 and June 9. The order also mandates all Executive Magistrates and the District Police to strictly enforce the ban and take legal action against violators.

The administration’s decision has been welcomed by several local residents and community organizations concerned about safety during the festival(DD)
