Bear Scare in Kishtwar: Wildlife Team Praised for Rescue Efforts, Cubs Still at Large

Kishtwar, (TDD): Panic gripped the Mughal area of Jammu’s Kishtwar district as a bear and its two cubs wandered into a residential zone, sparking fear among locals. Despite villagers’ attempts to drive the animals back into the forest, the bears repeatedly returned.

Acting swiftly, the administration deployed a wildlife rescue team headed by Asgar Ahmed, that managed to tranquilize the adult bear after considerable effort. However, the cubs remain at large, and operations are ongoing.

While the incident left villagers concerned about safety, many lauded the prompt response of the wildlife team. “We were terrified when the bears entered the village, but the wildlife team acted quickly and ensured no harm came to anyone,” said Shabir Ahmed, a local resident.

Another villager, Parveen Akhtar, expressed relief and gratitude: “Their professionalism and calm approach helped ease our fears. They worked tirelessly to handle the situation.”

However, locals have urged authorities to implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future, suggesting stronger surveillance and enhanced boundary protections around forested areas. (TDD)
