Srinagar, (DD): In a show of solidarity with the bereaved family of a slain former soldier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K President Sat Sharma and the party’s Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma visited the Badami Bagh Army Hospital in Srinagar today. They met with the injured wife and niece of the deceased former soldier, who were critically wounded in the recent terrorist attack in Kulgam, South Kashmir.
Former soldier Manzoor Ahmed Wagay was killed in a terrorist attack at Kulgam district of South Kashmir a few days ago.
After interacting with the injured family members, Sat Sharma spoke to reporters outside the hospital, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident.
“We visited the injured wife and niece of the slain ex-army soldier to inquire about their health and offer our support in this hour of grief. Now we are heading to Kulgam to meet the bereaved family and express our heartfelt condolences,” said Sat Sharma.
The BJP leaders later traveled to Kulgam, where they met with the family of the former soldier at his residence. The visit comes amid heightened tensions in the region following the attack, which has once again raised concerns about the security situation in South Kashmir.
Addressing the media in Kulgam, LoP Sunil Sharma launched a scathing attack on the National Conference (NC), holding the party responsible for the ongoing violence and political instability in the region.
“The National Conference is responsible for all the mess and bloodshed in Kashmir, right from 1931. Their policies and political opportunism have sown the seeds of unrest, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir continue to suffer because of their historical blunders,” Sharma stated.
His remarks sparked strong reactions from NC leaders, with party spokespersons accusing the BJP of politicizing a sensitive issue for electoral gains.
Rising Concerns Over Security in South Kashmir
The terrorist attack, which claimed the life of the former soldier and left his family members critically injured, has sent shockwaves through the region. Local residents gathered outside the soldier’s home in Kulgam, expressing outrage and demanding stronger security measures to prevent such incidents.
“We live in constant fear. The government must take immediate steps to ensure the safety of civilians, especially those who have served the nation,” said Ghulam Nabi, a neighbor of the slain soldier.
Security forces have launched a massive search operation in the area to track down the perpetrators. Senior police officials confirmed that they are pursuing leads and have tightened security in vulnerable areas.
During their visit, Sat Sharma and Sunil Sharma assured the grieving family of all possible support from the government and the party.
“The BJP stands with the families of martyrs. We will ensure that justice is served and that the family receives the necessary assistance,” Sat Sharma said.
The incident has reignited the debate over security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, with political leaders trading barbs over the causes of persistent violence while families like that of the slain soldier continue to bear the brunt of the region’s turmoil.(DD)
