Jammu, (DD): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Section Officer from the Sheep & Husbandry and Fisheries Section of the Agriculture Production Department, Jammu, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 through a UPI transaction.
According to officials, the accused officer had sought a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh from a complainant in exchange for processing his father’s appointment as a Stock Assistant. The case pertained to Advertisement No. 3 of 2007 by the J&K Service Selection Board (JKSSB) and a directive from the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Jammu, dated October 15, 2024. The officer allegedly negotiated the bribe amount and initially demanded Rs. 50,000, assuring that the remaining sum would be taken once a favorable decision was made.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on March 5 and caught the accused red-handed while receiving the bribe through an online UPI transaction. Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the officer’s residence in Jammu.
The accused was produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases in Jammu on March 6, where he was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
The investigation is ongoing, and further action is expected.(DD)
