CEC LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson Inaugurates Ladakh’s First Recycling Facility at Nimoo Thang

Leh: DD, Chairman/CEC LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, inaugurated Ladakh’s first recycling facility at Nimo Thang, along with Temisgham Councillor Tashi Tundup and other dignitaries.

The initiative has been launched by Ladakh Recycling Solutions in collaboration with LAHDC Leh, following the signing of a MoU between the two, marking a joint commitment to address Ladakh’s waste management challenges.

The inauguration ceremony began with a tour of the facility, where the CEC inspected machines and “waste-to-wealth” products such as tiles made of plastic wastes.
The founders of Ladakh Recycling Solutions briefed him on the facility’s capacity to recycle 30 metric tonnes of plastic waste daily and its focus on producing construction materials from waste.

Among those present at the event were ADDC Leh, Sonam Nurboo; ACD Leh, A.G. Zargar; CPO Leh, Tsewang Gailson; Director, Housing and Urban Development, Moses Kunzang; BDO Nimoo, Manzoor Hussain; Goba Temisgham Shri Tsewang Dorje; and local villagers.

Founder Stanzin Jigmet, in his welcome address, shared the journey of Ladakh Recycling Solutions and highlighted how, with the support of the Council, the initiative has now launched its first recycling plant in Ladakh, focusing on the management of construction material and plastic waste.

Goba, Temisgham Tsewang Dorje expressed his gratitude to the CEC and lauded the initiative for its potential to serve as a model at the national level.

ADDC Leh, Sonam Nurboo, appreciated the project as a significant step towards a self-sustaining and eco-friendly economy, while Director Housing and Urban Development, Moses Kunzang, commended the young entrepreneurs behind the venture and encouraged broader support for their efforts.

In his address, CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson praised the initiative and emphasized the significance of waste-to-wealth solutions.
He highlighted ongoing efforts by LAHDC, including Project Tsangda, which focuses on waste segregation, and reiterated the Council’s commitment to backing projects that advance environmental sustainability.
Commending the quality of the recycled products on display, he assured full support for expanding the initiative further.
He also commended the young entrepreneurs from Ladakh for taking up the responsibility of waste management with innovative solutions.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Co-founder Tsering Kunchok, who extended heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries for gracing the occasion with their presence and taking time to visit the facility.DD
