Chhamb Residents Demand Renaming of Agricultural University After Baba Jeeto

Jammu, TDD ,The people of Chhamb, under the banner of Shaheed Kissan Baba Jito Sangharsh Samiti, voiced their demand for renaming the Agricultural University of Jammu after Baba Jeeto.

A large gathering of men and women convened in the main market hall in a program organized by Devinder Singh Bhau to pay homage to the martyred farmer and highlight his contributions.

The crowd resonated with slogans such as, “Rename the Agricultural University to Baba Jeeto” and “Long live the martyred farmer Baba Jeeto Ji,” calling for the recognition of his sacrifice for the welfare of farmers.

Addressing the gathering, Pratap Singh emphasized the historical significance of Baba Jeeto’s sacrifice, stating that his name symbolizes the fight against oppression and the pursuit of truth. He urged the government to honor his legacy by renaming the University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu (SKUAST-J) after him.

“In the current era, when institutions are being named after local heroes and martyrs, no one stands more deserving than Bawa Jitto,” Singh said. He added that Baba Jeeto’s deep association with agriculture makes him an ideal figure to inspire future generations in the field.

Arun Seekay and Devinder Bhau also appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to consider their demand and urged the Dogras, Paharis, Gujjars, Bakkarwals, and others to support the cause. They clarified that only the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in the Jammu region should bear Baba Jeeto’s name, emphasizing the importance of this recognition for the community.

The movement has garnered widespread support, with hopes that the government will take swift action to honor the legacy of the martyred farmer who fought for the rights of others.TDD
