Srinagar,(DD): In a major crackdown on a prison-based terror network, the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) today detained five individuals for allegedly smuggling SIM cards to terrorists lodged in various jails across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a police spokesperson, the detentions are linked to an ongoing investigation under FIR No. 06/2023 registered at Police Station CIK, involving charges under sections 153-A, 505, 121, and 120-B of the IPC, along with sections 13 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The suspects are accused of conspiring with anti-national elements to procure, transport, and smuggle SIM cards into central jails, enabling inmates—some linked to terrorism and narco-terrorism—to coordinate illicit activities from behind bars.
Earlier searches conducted inside the central jail premises uncovered evidence of the suspects’ collaboration with certain inmates to facilitate these operations. Authorities are now scrutinizing the role of Point of Sale (PoS) vendors and telecom service providers who issued the SIM cards, with further arrests anticipated as the investigation progresses.
The detained suspects hail from Dawoodpora (Anantnag), Qamarwari (Srinagar), Nathpora, Kaloosa (Bandipora), and Kursu Padshahibagh (Srinagar).(DD)
