CJNS, Jamia Millia Islamia holds an Extension Lecture on “Development in Indian Culture: Perception and Process”

New Delhi: DD, The Centre for Jawaharlal Nehru Studies (CJNS), Jamia Millia Islamia, organized an Extension Lecture on the theme “Development in Indian Culture: Perception and Process.”
The event was held under the esteemed leadership of Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia. The lecture was chaired by Prof. Bharti Sharma, Honorary Director, CJNS, JMI.
The Keynote speaker for the lecture was Prof. Jigar Mohammed, former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Head of the Department of History at the University of Jammu.


The lecture was convened by Dr. Etee Bahadur, Assistant Professor, CJNS. It was attended by Prof. Velayutham Saravanan, CJNS and other faculty members from across JMI. The lecture commenced with a welcome address by Kapil Yadav, Research Scholar at CJNS.
Prof. Jigar Mohammed began his lecture by identifying three fundamental dimensions of development: creativity, productivity, and freedom of expression.
He emphasized the significance of critical thinking within the framework of Indian culture and traced the cultural history of India.
He highlighted the cultural and intellectual history of the India, and stated that the Indian culture was essentially a knowledge-based system.
Prof Mohammed in his lecture spoke on some of the leading ideologues of the Indian National Movement who played a vital role in shaping the vision of inclusive development in modern India.
The lecture witnessed an active participation of the faculty members and research scholars from different centres and departments of Jamia Millia Islamia. Following the lecture, Prof. Bharti Sharma expressed her gratitude and reflected on the conceptualization of the topic.
She also commended on the clarity and conciseness of the lecture before opening the floor for a question and answer session.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Azka Ali Khan, Research Scholar, CJNS.DD
