Jammu, (DD): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced significant enhancements to the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) and the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS), aiming to provide greater financial support to vulnerable sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir.
The move is part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen social welfare initiatives, ensuring better assistance for the elderly, widows, and persons with disabilities. With the revised provisions, thousands of beneficiaries across the Union Territory will receive increased financial aid, addressing long-standing demands for improved social security measures.
Chairing a high-level meeting, CM Omar Abdullah directed officials to streamline the disbursement process and leverage digital platforms to ensure transparency and efficiency. He emphasised that no eligible beneficiary should be left out and instructed authorities to conduct a fresh survey to include deserving individuals who may have been previously overlooked.
The NSAP and ISSS play a crucial role in providing monthly pensions to the most vulnerable populations. With the latest enhancement, the J&K government aims to bridge existing gaps and expand the reach of these welfare schemes, reinforcing its commitment to social justice and economic support for marginalised communities.
Officials have been directed to fast-track implementation and ensure that the increased benefits are disbursed at the earliest. Beneficiaries and concerned departments have welcomed the move, stating that the enhanced assistance will provide much-needed financial relief amid rising costs of living.
The government is also exploring further reforms in the welfare sector, including better integration of Aadhaar-linked payments and doorstep delivery of services, to make the schemes more accessible and effective.(DD)
