Sonamarg, (DD): At the inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel, an infrastructure project that will ensure year-round connectivity to Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made an earnest appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the restoration of the J&K’s statehood.
While commending the Centre’s development initiatives, Omar called for the fulfillment of the long-standing promise of statehood restoration. “The development projects spearheaded by your government are bringing visible progress to Jammu and Kashmir. The improvement in security and the restoration of peace along our borders have been significant for the people,” Omar said, recognizing the positive strides made under PM Modi’s leadership.
However, he stressed the importance of political empowerment through the restoration of statehood to complete the region’s transition. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have waited long enough for their dignity and political identity to be restored. I request you, sir, to honor this commitment,” he added.
While PM Modi highlighted the transformative potential of the Z-Morh tunnel and other ongoing projects aimed at boosting connectivity, tourism, and economic growth in J&K, he did not directly address the statehood demand during the event.
The Z-Morh tunnel, a project that faced years of delays and challenges, symbolizes a significant milestone in Jammu and Kashmir’s infrastructural development. While it represents progress, the event also underscored the region’s ongoing aspirations for political empowerment and self-governance.(DD)
