Jammu, (TDD) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with his cabinet ministers, chaired a crucial meeting today with prominent citizens of Jammu to address their concerns and provide on-the-spot directives for the resolution of various issues.

The session aimed to strengthen communication between the government and local communities, with discussions covering governance, development, security, and socio-economic challenges.

The gathering included influential political leaders, social activists, business representatives, and other stakeholders from Jammu. “This is an opportunity for us to listen to the concerns of the people of Jammu and work towards resolving the challenges they face,” Omar Abdullah stated during the meeting, stating the need for ongoing dialogue and collaboration in this pivotal moment for the region.

A significant topic of discussion was the recent political developments, particularly the revocation of Article 370, which had granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Several citizens expressed concerns about the implications of these changes on the region’s political autonomy and future governance.

Darbar Move and economic development also emerged as a major concern with participants voicing the need for policies that benefit Jammu equally to Kashmir. “Jammu has immense potential, particularly in sectors like tourism, education, and healthcare, but it has been overshadowed by the political focus on Kashmir,” remarked a prominent local businessman. “We need balanced policies that ensure the people of Jammu have the opportunities to thrive.”

In response, Omar Abdullah assured attendees that the National Conference (NC) remains committed to the development and prosperity of both Jammu and Kashmir. “Our focus is on inclusive growth for the entire region, ensuring that both Jammu and Kashmir are treated equally when it comes to resource distribution and governance,” he stated. “We are here to listen, learn, and, most importantly, act on the feedback we receive from the people.”

Security was another key issue discussed, with several participants highlighting the need for strengthened measures to maintain peace and stability. A retired security official at the meeting noted, “While security has improved, there is still more to be done to ensure the safety of ordinary citizens. The evolving security situation demands constant vigilance.”

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with Omar Abdullah reaffirming his commitment to ongoing engagement with the public. “It’s crucial that we continue our dialogue with the people and work together to tackle the challenges ahead,” he said in his closing remarks. “This is just the beginning of an important conversation, and we will continue to prioritize the welfare of our citizens.”

This meeting is part of Omar Abdullah’s broader strategy to strengthen his political presence in Jammu and Kashmir following the revocation of Article 370. It also reflects the National Conference’s commitment to inclusive governance, ensuring that all voices from the region are heard and addressed. (TDD)
