CM Omar urges Centre to take clear stand on Rohingyas as BJP demands CBI Probe

They can’t be treated like animals as long as they are in Jammu’

Jammu, TDD, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today urged the central government to clarify its position regarding the treatment of Rohingya refugees in Jammu, stressing that they must be treated with humanity as long as they remain in the region.

Speaking to reporters here, Omar condemned the idea of inhumane treatment for the refugees, asserting, “As long as they are in Jammu, we cannot leave them to suffer or treat them like animals.” He said that the fate of the Rohingyas should be decided by the central government, as the Jammu and Kashmir government did not bring them to the region. His remarks underscored the humanitarian nature of the issue, calling for compassion towards those who have fled persecution in Myanmar.

Omar’s comments come amid increasing political tension over the settlement of Rohingyas in Jammu. The Jammu and Kashmir BJP has raised alarms over the issue with party spokesperson Sunil Sethi demanding a CBI investigation into the role of NGOs in facilitating the settlement of Rohingya refugees in the region. Sethi accused the NGOs of playing a key role in the settlement process, and called for a full inquiry into their actions.(TDD)
