Kargil, DD, The site visit for the construction of the state-of-the-art Office-cum-Sainik Sarai near the Employment Office in Kargil was conducted by the Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Junior Engineer PWD, Administrative Commandant, Station Headquarters Kargil, along with the project contractor and architect.
Administrative approval for the project was granted by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr.) BD Mishra, in November 2024, followed by the award of the contract by the Chief Engineer, PWD, UT of Ladakh, in February 2025. The construction is scheduled to be completed within 18 months.
The ex-servicemen of Kargil district have expressed their deep gratitude to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor for fast-track approval of the much-awaited Zila Sainik Welfare Office-cum-Sainik Sarai.
The project has been designed by Captain (IN) A. K. Pawar, in consultation with the architect and the building will be constructed incorporating latest state-of-the-art technology, earthquake-resistance design, provision of solar panels for heating and ventilation system, and a generator set for power backup.
The building will significantly contribute to the welfare of ex-servicemen in the Kargil region. It will house the Zila Sainik Welfare Office on the ground floor, and 10 guest rooms for ex-servicemen on the second and third floors. The total project cost as approved by the administrative authority is Rs 904.87 lakhs.DD
