Jammu, (DD) Congress Chief Whip and MLA Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat, has called for the formation of an all-party House panel to pursue the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood with the Central government.

Speaking in the Assembly, Bhat emphasized that further delay in addressing the issue is detrimental. He proposed that a dedicated committee, representing all political parties, should engage with the Centre and national political leadership to push for the cause.

“We have two choices—either we take this issue to the government or to the people of India. This House should form a committee to assess the sincerity of all stakeholders on this crucial matter,” Bhat stated.

He urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take the lead, stating that his strong mandate gives him the credibility to represent the aspirations of the people at the national level. Bhat further called on the CM to personally nominate the House panel and seek meetings with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to present the case for statehood.

“Jammu and Kashmir remains in limbo with a diminished status. It is our responsibility—this House, its members, and especially the Chief Minister—to act swiftly and assertively. Parliament has already acknowledged our demand; now, we must follow through with a united front,” he added.

Bhat concluded by advocating for either an all-party delegation or a House panel to ensure that the promise of statehood restoration remains a priority.(DD)
