Congress holds functions to remember Pt Nehru

Jammu, TDD,Paying rich tributes to first Prime Minister Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru,JKPCC Chief Shri Tariq Hameed Karra said that Nehruvian philosophy is more relevant in the present times than before in view of the challenges posed by the communal and divisive forces.

Addressing an impressive function to celebrate 135th birth anniversary of Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru JKPCC Chief said that biggest tribute would be to understand and revive the Nehruvian thought and philosophy ,which is under attack today by the BJP and RSS ,posing a great danger to the secular fabric of the nation.

The main function was held by the party at party Hq Shaheedi Chowk Jammu today, while series of programmes were held in different chowks of Jammu city by Congress Seva Dal besides in different districts and block headquarters in the region.
The function was attended by the several senior leaders and functionaries of the party, Including Working President Tara Chand & Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney Ved Mahajan, Jahangir Mir, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Rajnish Sharma, Yash Pal Kundal, Indu Pawar,Hari Singh Chib, Shah Mohd Chaudhary Iftikhaar Ahmed MLA, Th. Manmohan Singh , T S Tony, Shashi Sharma, Narinder Sharma, Amrit Bali, Subash Bhagat, Satish Sharma, Suresh Dogra,Naresh Sharma, , Sanjeev Sharma, Parvez Wani, Ch. Dwarka , Kamal Singh, Bhushan Dogra, S. Gurdarshan Singh, Sanjeev Sharma(Panda), Neeraj Gupta, Kapil Singh, Ashok Sharma, Ashok Bhagat, Rajveer Singh, Manjeet Singh Jatt, Sahil Sharma, Jyoti vaid, Vijay Shastri, H.S Mehta ,Vijay Sharma (Seva Dal), Ajay lakhotra(NSUI), Jatin Raina, Rajinder Singh Nathu, Madan Lal Chalotra, Bharat Priya, Nasir Masih, Sandeep Dogra, Tamana Heer, Ricky Dalotra,

PCC Chief described Pt. Nehru as a Great Statesman and visionary leader who laid sound foundation of Modern India. He is Known as architect of Modern India because of his multi- dimensional contributions in shaping the future of Independent India.

He readout the preamble of the constitution and referred to the significant quote of Pt. Nehru “ We have laid down in our constitution that India is a secular state . That does not mean irreligion . It means equal respect for all faiths and equal opportunities for those who profess any faith” He said that this slogan lays the foundations of our country and guides us the idea of India of the basic principle of congress.

He said that Pt. Nehru was a valiant freedom fighter, a hero of masses, a passionate Indian who was enraged by the injustices inflicted upon the oppressed people of India under British Raj . He gave up material comfort of life and dedicated his entire life to the struggle to free India from colonial rule . He was ardent follower of Mahatma Gandhi and remained in jail for around nine years during freedom struggle. Nehru had an abiding commitment to democracy, equality and justice.

Shri. Karra said that in recent times Nehru’s legacy has been under attack from his detractors, who are the ideological descendants of the Non- participants in the freedom struggle. It is time that the congressmen and all those who are aware of the great contributions of Pt. Nehru in the freedom struggle and in laying the foundations of the country, as a leader of this nation, to come together to counter those forces, who are trying to distort history, so that the generation to come are not misinformed and misguided regarding the core values that he represented and stood for. He asked the party functionaries of all levels to educate the masses about the principles and achievements of Pt. Nehru and other great leaders of this country and expose the false propaganda of the communal and divisive forces in the State.

All senior leaders spoke on the occasion and paid rich tributes to Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and recalled his great contributions to the country.

Other who were present include Sushma Choudhary, Anuradha Sharma, Anirudh Sawhney, Dr. RK Khajuria, Sat paul Sapolia, Pawan Singh, Chander Shekhar Sharma, Atul Sharma, Latish Sharma, Parveena, Dewan Chand, Rajinder Singh, Kamal Singh, Kewal Krishan Yogi, Maqbool Choudhary, Naresh Sharma, Sushil Sharma, Com. Vijay Sharma, Jatinder Bhagat and others.

Earlier in the morning Congress Seva Dal led by Shri Vijay Sharma & Jatinder Bhagat, organized tribute paying functions at Mahatma Gandhi Chowk Satwari, Gole Market Gandhinagar, Bikram Chowk and Shaheedi Chowk Jammu. Mr. Ravinder Sharma, Shri Yogesh Sawhney, and T.S. Tony were also present on the occasions while the PCC Chief along with other senior leaders also attended the function at Shaheedi Chowk.

Similar functions were held at several districts and block headquarters including Doda, Kathua, Udhampur- Ramnagar, Rajouri, Akhnoor, Sunderbani, Vijaypur-Samba, and several other places ,TDD
