Congress, PDP Yet to Reveal Strategy for Rajya Sabha Polls as 24-Hour Countdown Begins

Srinagar,DD: As the Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir draw closer, uncertainty looms large with just 24 hours left for voting. Both the Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have yet to disclose their strategies, keeping political observers guessing.

Sources said the Congress is waiting for directions from its central leadership before making any formal announcement.
“A final decision is likely after the party’s legislative meeting in Srinagar and consultations with the high command,” a senior Congress functionary said.

The PDP, according to insiders, remains indecisive about its next move and is reportedly observing the situation closely.

“PDP will finalise its strategy only after the Congress makes its stand clear,” the source added.

Party insiders revealed that the PDP has linked its possible support in the Rajya Sabha elections to the acceptance of private member bills moved by its legislators, suggesting that the party intends to use the polls to push its legislative agenda.

Voting for four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled for October 24.
The National Conference is expected to comfortably secure three seats, while the fourth seat is heading for a close contest between NC’s Imran Dar and BJP’s Sat Sharma.

According to political arithmetic, the BJP currently has 28 votes in its favour, while the NC holds 24. The final outcome, therefore, hinges on how the Congress and the PDP decide to vote.

Political analysts believe that the silence maintained by both parties adds to the suspense, making the contest for the fourth seat a decisive battle that could shape future alliances within the Union Territory’s political landscape. [KNT]
