Udhampur :TDD- Congress party Staged a protest at the Udhampur railway station, demanding the reinstatement of ‘Udhampur’ in the station’s name, which was renamed after Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan a few years ago.
Despite initial opposition to the renaming, a compromise was reached to include both the martyr’s name and ‘Udhampur’ in the station’s title. However, even after an order was passed, railway tickets continue to display only ‘Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Railway Station’, effectively erasing ‘Udhampur’ from the station’s identity.
Congress workers, led by their Senior leader Sumit Magotra, gathered at the railway station udhampur to voice their discontent. They asserted that the omission of ‘Udhampur’ undermines the city’s identity and demanded that the name be changed within a month. If their demands are not met, they have threatened to launch a massive ‘rail roko’ (rail blockade) agitation.
In a statement, Sumit Magotra emphasized the importance of recognizing both the martyr and the city in the station’s name. He expressed disappointment over the continued disregard for the previous order and urged the authorities to take immediate action.
The protest highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding the renaming of the Udhampur railway station and the local residents’ attachment to their city’s identity.TDD
