Crackdown Against 25 Banned Books: Police Searches Bookshops in Kishtwar

IMRAN SHAH

Kishtwar: DD, After Kashmir, police in hilly district Kishtwar have launched a search operation across local book shops and establishments to trace 25 books recently banned by the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department.

The intensified drive is part of the J&K Police’s ongoing multi-front campaign against activities deemed detrimental to public order and national security.

Acting on official directives, police teams fanned out in various parts of Kishtwar district to inspect bookshops, roadside stalls, and storage facilities for any copies of the banned publications.

A senior police official stated that the search operations aim to ensure strict enforcement of the Home Department’s ban order and prevent the spread of content that could incite violence, communal discord, or anti-national sentiments. “We are committed to implementing the directives in letter and spirit. Legal action will be taken against anyone found stocking or distributing the prohibited material,” the official added.

Sources said similar operations are being planned in other districts as well, with authorities maintaining a zero-tolerance approach towards the sale of banned literature.

The J&K Home Department had earlier issued a formal notification identifying 25 titles for prohibition, citing threats to peace and harmony in the Union Territory.DD
