Srinagar, (DD)In a major offensive against the drug menace plaguing the region, Srinagar Police have booked seven notorious drug peddlers under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. The move is part of the ongoing crackdown aimed at dismantling organized narcotics networks that pose a serious threat to youth in Jammu and Kashmir.
The accused individuals, all repeat offenders with prior FIRs under the NDPS Act, continued to operate brazenly despite bail orders and warnings. They were reportedly instrumental in peddling drugs across Srinagar and other areas, particularly targeting vulnerable youth.
The accused booked under the PIT-NDPS Act include:
- Bilal Ahmad Langoo @ Owais, S/o Ghulam Nabi Langoo, R/o Aramwari Rajbagh – involved in FIR No. 04/2023, PS Rajbagh.
- Altaf Ahmad Najar @ TK Khan, S/o Ghulam Qadir Khan, R/o Islamyarbal – involved in FIR No. 39/2019, PS Nowhatta.
- Moomin Bilal Kanu @ Momin Waza, S/o Bilal Ahmad Kanu, R/o Banday Kocha – involved in FIR No. 05/2025, PS M.R. Gunj.
- Mohammad Ayoub Najar, S/o Late Abdul Khaliq, R/o Waniyar Rathpora – involved in FIR No. 10/2015, PS Safakadal.
- Adnan Rasool Ganai, S/o Ghulam Rasool, R/o Chandoosa Baramulla A/P Qamarabad – involved in FIR No. 58/2022, PS Parimpora.
- Shah Din Mushtaq @ Kana/Tufail, S/o Mushtaq Ahmad, R/o Bonyarbal – involved in FIR No. 04/2025, PS Hiranagar Kathua.
- Ubaid Ahmad Shah, S/o Aijaz Ahmad Shah, R/o Pamposh Colony Palpora – involved in FIR No. 134/2024, PS Safakadal.
Police said that detailed dossiers were prepared against each of the accused, leading to formal detention orders under PIT-NDPS. The detainees have been lodged in high-security jails including Kot Bhalwal, Udhampur, Jammu, and Kathua.
In a parallel move, Srinagar Police has initiated proceedings to attach properties and assets allegedly amassed through drug money, in accordance with the provisions of the PIT-NDPS Act. The crackdown is aimed not just at arresting offenders, but also at dismantling the financial backbone of drug syndicates.
“This is a decisive step towards creating a drug-free Srinagar. Our focus remains on both enforcement and prevention,” a senior police officer said.
The public has been urged to assist the police by reporting any drug-related activity in their neighborhoods. Srinagar Police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding communities and protecting youth from falling into the trap of addiction.(DD)
