“Passenger Safety and Minimising Road Accidents is Our Top Priority,” says ARTO Kishtwar

Kishtwar, (DD): In a major crackdown on traffic violations, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Kishtwar, under the overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS) and in line with directives from Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan (JKAS), has taken stringent action against habitual and serious traffic offenders across the district from June to mid-July 2025.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kishtwar, Tasleem Wani (JKAS), shared the details of enforcement actions taken:
Route permits of 04 vehicles suspended for a period of three months under Section 86(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
(Vehicle numbers: JK17-3055, JK17B-0184, JK17-5315, JK17-7664)
09 driving licences suspended under Section 19(1)(d) & (f) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
230 vehicles e-challaned for various traffic violations.
31 vehicles seized for serious infractions.
51 vehicles blacklisted for repeated violations.
Fines amounting to Rs 9.65 lakh collected.
The department reported that major offences included habitual violations, dangerous driving, overloading, stunt performances, and plying vehicles without Speed Limiting Devices.
“This operation is a wake-up call to those flouting traffic rules. Such behaviour is unacceptable and endangers passenger safety,” said ARTO Tasleem Wani. He emphasised that the Motor Vehicles Department is committed to enforcing transport regulations, ensuring commuter safety, and reducing road accidents in Kishtwar(DD)
