Jammu: DD,The Crime Branch has arrested and chargesheeted two property dealers from Kathua in connection with a major land scam involving an amount of ₹1.25 crore.
The accused have been identified as Devinder Singh, son of Jai Singh, resident of Ward No. 10, Kathua, and Anil Kumar, son of Bishamber Dass, resident of Baira, Kathua.
According to officials, in 2024 an FIR was registered on the basis of a written complaint lodged by Jaswinder Singh of Pathankot (Punjab) and Verinder Sharma of Greater Kailash, Jammu. The complainants, partners in the firm “Transworld Infra Developers and Builders”, had been intending to set up a manufacturing unit in Kathua when the accused approached them.
Devinder Singh and Anil Kumar falsely claimed ownership of 270 kanals of land at village Govindsar, Kathua, and used fabricated land records to dupe the complainants of ₹1.25 crore.
During investigation, allegations were substantiated and the accused were formally arrested. A chargesheet was produced today before the Special Mobile Magistrate, Kathua.
It has also come to light that Devinder Singh was earlier booked in FIR No. 323/2020 under sections 120-B, 323, 415, 417, 419, 420, 426, 447, 465, 467, 468, 471, 506 of the IPC at Police Station Kathua. The offences were established and a challan had been filed in court.
Confirming the development, SSP Crime Jammu Benam Tosh said that in the present case (FIR No. 24/2024 under sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 120-B IPC, Police Station Crime Branch EOW Jammu), both accused have been arrested and chargesheet filed for judicial determination.DD
