Crucial NC LP meet this afternoon, Congress meeting tomorrow

‘NC to finalise CM face, fine tune Model of Governance’

Srinagar,(TDD): National Conference (NC) Legislature Party meeting will take place this afternoon while as Congress Legislature Party meeting is slated for tomorrow.
The meeting comes a day after NC chief Dr Farooq Abdullah stated that the upcoming CM of J&K will have to wear a “crown of thorns” as the road ahead is full of challenges.
A party leader wishing not to be named said that party will chalk out the future course of action and also discuss the proper date for swearing in ceremony. “Let’s see what party leaders say about who should be the next CM,” he said, adding that “one thing is clear that majority will vote for Omar but we have to be clear enough while choosing the leader of the House given the fact things are not same what it used be before 2014.”
NC’s elected member from Gurez Nazir Gurezi said that the party meeting will discuss and finalise the name of upcoming leader of the House, who would obviously be the Chief Minister as well. Asked whether he was expecting any portfolio from the party, he said it was up to the party leadership. “I will abide by the party’s decision,” he said.
The newly elected legislators will also discuss the “Model of Governance” to be followed in the next five years. “We will also invite suggestions how to take Jammu on board despite the fact the region has not voted for NC,” the NC leader said. Pertinently, NC vice president Omar Abdullah yesterday told reporters that new dispensation in J&K can’t afford to have antagonist relation with New Delhi and it would be foolish to demand Article 370 from the present government at Centre. He, however, stated that first thing new cabinet will do is it will pass a resolution seeking restoration of Statehood for J&K and handover the copy of the same to Prime Minister Narendera Modi.
Meanwhile, J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra who is in New Delhi, is expected to return today late afternoon, will chair party’s legislature party meet tomorrow. “He must have got the directions from the high command as to what party leaders must pitch for,” a Congress leader said. NC got a huge mandate from the people of Kashmir as it bagged 42 seats while Congress party witnessed its downfall by settling at just six seats. PDP also recorded poorest performance as it won only three seats. Peoples Conference won one seat and Er Rashid’s AIP despite its tall claims managed to win just one seat. Jammu, however sided with the BJP by giving the party 29 seats. The new Assembly shaping up will be the weakest ever in the history of J&K as it will be the UT Assembly. (TDD)
