Srinagar:DD, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that the recent flood damages, development of sports infrastructure, and the need for peace across Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to media persons, on damage during recent heavy rains and floods, CM Omar said, “The losses are being assessed and whatever compensation has to be given, it will be provided.”

“As far as the highway is concerned, traffic is moving smoothly. Around 300 meters of the stretch had washed away where blacktopping could not be done earlier, but that will also be completed shortly, which will further improve vehicle movement. At no point has traffic been completely halted,” he said.

On sports and making day-night grounds in J&K, CM Omar said, “Every ground cannot be converted into a day-night facility. Our effort is to begin with the major districts and then gradually expand this network further.”

“At least there is something for which we cannot be blamed. Maintaining peace is not the responsibility of my government at present. Yet, our government is often targeted for everything. If peace is missing, then it must be ensured, because peace is the base for every aspect of life — development, tourism, and sports.”

Omar added that the message of the sports event, where a special T-shirt was released by Real Kashmir, was also one of peace and harmony. “If the atmosphere is not peaceful, who will come in the evening to play a day-night match? For everything, we need peace. The responsibility lies with those in charge, and they must fulfill it,” he said. (KNC)
