DC Kishtwar Reviews Education Sector, Aims for 100% Literacy in the District

Kishtwar,TDD,The Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Shavan (JKAS), chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the education sector to assess the implementation of ULLAS Scheme, literacy rate, school infrastructure, and progress of ongoing educational projects in the district.

Emphasizing the district’s ambitious goal of achieving 100% literacy, the DC urged all stakeholders to intensify their efforts to ensure every individual has access to education.

The review focused on critical issues, including school dropout rates, the status of out-of-school children, and the implementation of the ULLAS Scheme, which targets the literacy needs of individuals aged 15-85. The DC stressed the importance of identifying illiterate individuals through the ULLAS framework and devising strategies to integrate them into the literacy programs.

Sh. R K Shavan highlighted the need to bring school dropouts back into the education system, urging the Education Department and nodal agencies to intensify outreach efforts. He directed officials to ensure 100% enrolment of targeted groups by conducting detailed research and planning. School Management Committees and Village Development Monitoring Committees were called upon to play a proactive role in this initiative, including identifying and mobilizing Education Volunteers.

The meeting also reviewed vocational programs implemented in high schools & higher secondary schools, aligning them with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to provide students with practical skills and career-oriented education. The DC stressed that these programs are essential for fostering holistic education and enhancing employability among the youth.

A thorough discussion on ongoing developmental projects and infrastructure requirements in schools was also conducted. The DC directed the officials from R&B and SAMAGRA Shiksha to expedite the completion of these projects and adhere to fixed deadlines to ensure that schools are equipped with adequate facilities.

In his concluding remarks, the DC emphasized the collective responsibility of all stakeholders, including government officials, local committees, and community members, in achieving the 100 percent literacy goals. He also highlighted the transformative impact of education in uplifting socio-economic conditions and called for a district-wide movement to make Kishtwar a model of educational excellence.

The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Shahnawaz Bali, Chief Education Officer Javaid Ahmed Kichloo, Principal DIET Kishtwar Prehlad Bhagat, Executive Engineers and Assistant Engineers from R&B, and representatives from SAMAGRA Shiksha.TDD
