DC Kishtwar Reviews PMGSY Projects; Emphasizes Timely Completion, Environmental Safeguards, and Quality Standards

KISHTWAR, DD, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Sh. Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), today chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the progress of road infrastructure projects being executed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) across all sub-divisions of the district.

During the meeting, the Executive Engineers (PMGSY) briefed the Deputy Commissioner on the current status, physical achievements, and challenges encountered in the execution of various projects. A detailed PowerPoint presentation was also given, outlining project-wise progress and timelines.

It was informed that in Division Kishtwar ,out of 99 sanctioned projects, 58 have been completed, while 41 are in progress. In Division Marwah, 13 out of 21 schemes have been completed, and 5 are currently ongoing.

The DC carried out a detailed review of key road projects under various stages of PMGSY implementation, including roads from Gahan to Chandali, Ikhala to Lopara, Margi to Sukhnai, Cherji to Semna Bhata, Hidyal to Hargadi, Afani to Jar, Shashoo to Sazar, Shiwas to Ongayee, Atholi to Palali, and Kandni to Ohli, among others. The progress of bridge works under the scheme was also reviewed.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the PMGSY engineers to ensure timely completion of all works while maintaining strict quality standards.

He directed them to take disciplinary action, including blacklisting, against non-performing contractors and to expedite all pending works.

Emphasizing the importance of environmental protection, the DC directed the Executive Engineers to ensure proper disposal of muck at identified locations and to avoid any damage to forest areas during road construction.

He strictly directed that no forest land should be harmed for the execution of works and stressed the need to undertake plantation drives along road alignments to promote ecological balance.

He further directed the Executive Engineers to submit a list of non-performing contractors who have abandoned or delayed work, so that appropriate action can be initiated against them.

Reiterating the district administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards substandard work, the DC underscored the need for rigorous quality monitoring and accountability to ensure durable, sustainable, and environmentally responsible rural connectivity in the district.
