Leh, May 5, 2025,DD: The Deputy Commissioner, Leh Santosh Sukhadeve convened a crucial meeting regarding strengthening of Pashmina value chain and identifying existing gaps in Changthang region of Ladakh at the DC office mini conference hall on May 5.
The agenda of the meeting focuses on several key areas vital for the growth and sustainability of the pashmina industry in the region. These include understanding of Pashmina production trends over the years and strategies to boost the production, understanding and identifying the challenges and bottlenecks in pashmina value chain, exploring avenues to enhance income opportunities for the local communities involved in pashmina production, implementing programs to improve the skills and knowledge of stakeholders at various levels and exploring ways to increase the value of pashmina products through innovation and improved processing techniques.
The Deputy Commissioner assured the stakeholders that he would take up the key points and issues to the attention of Principal Secretary and the Hon’ble LG to facilitate concrete action aimed at empowering pashmina producers in Changthang region and ensuring the sustained growth of this important economic activity for Ladakh.
The meeting was attended by Director Industries & Commerce Department, Director Sheep Husbandry Department, Sub Divisional Magistrate Nyoma (via video conference), Chief Planning Officer, Deputy Registrar Cooperative Department Leh, OSD Industries & Commerce department and local pashmina entrepreneurs.
