Srinagar, (DD): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to arrive in Srinagar today to review the security situation and operational preparedness of the armed forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

During his visit, Singh will meet top Army officials, including the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15 Corps, also known as the Chinar Corps, and interact with troops deployed in the Kashmir Valley.

According to defence sources, the Defence Minister is also expected to visit forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara and Uri sectors of North Kashmir, which have recently witnessed intense cross-border shelling. The shelling destroyed dozens of houses and caused panic among the civilian population.

“The Defence Minister’s visit is aimed at taking stock of the ground situation following the recent ceasefire violations by Pakistan. He will be briefed on troop deployments, infrastructure damage, and the response measures taken by the Army,” a senior defence source said.

The source added that the visit will include a high-level review of border security and counter-infiltration measures ahead of the summer months, a period that traditionally sees increased militant activity.

Singh’s visit is seen as a morale booster for the troops and a signal of the Centre’s commitment to supporting border communities affected by hostilities.(DD)
