Children, Youth, elderly suffering from depression, drug abuse a major concern, will follow proper recruitment policy, advertise posts in a sequence’

Srinagar, (TDD): The Minister for Health and Education Sakinta Itoo today expressed her concern over the growing rate of depression among the people of Kashmir stating that its high time to frame a policy to address the issue.
She said that children, youth and elderly lot were suffering from depression in Kashmir. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at SKICC in Srinagar, the Minister said; “The government is mulling a compact policy to address the issues of growing depression among the children, youth and elderly lot of Kashmir. We are also framing a mechanism to curb the menace of drug abuse in the Valley.
The Health Minister said that there is no denying of the fact that in Kashmir from youth to children to elderly lot, everyone is facing the problem of depression for the reasons known to all. “We are planning a collective approach to the address this genuine concern. And for that all stakeholders will be consulted before starting the policy to address this burning issue,” she said.
She said that apart from the depression, growing drug abuse is another major concern which is consuming the young lot of Kashmir. “Today’s function will deliberate upon the need of addressing the drug addiction among the youth and counter measures,” she said. “Young boys and girls are falling prey to drug addiction. We need to break the supply chain.”
Asked about recruitment policy, she said let’s not dig the past and focus on future. “We will advertise the posts in a sequence. Vacant posts will be referred to the concerned agencies for advertisement shortly,” she said, adding that the lecturers and professor’s posts will be advertised very shortly. (TDD)
