Jammu, DD,Shiv Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, chaired a high-level security review meeting at District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu to address the alarming rise in gangster activities, robberies, thefts, and drug-related crimes.
The meeting was attended by SSP Jammu Shri Joginder Singh, JKPS, along with SP North, SP South, SP Headquarters, SP Rural, SP Operations, and all DySPs, SDPOs, DySP DSB, and DySP DAR of Jammu.
Zero Tolerance Against Gangsters and Criminal Networks:
The DIG emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards gangsters, drug peddlers, thieves, vehicle lifters, and other anti-social elements. He directed officers to maintain updated lists of offenders for continuous surveillance and to dismantle their financial networks. Orders were given to seize properties acquired through illegal activities, including extortion, land grabbing, and illicit property dealings. The support systems of these criminals, including relatives and associates providing shelter, will also face legal action.
Mission-Oriented Approach Against Drugs and Crime:
Addressing the growing drug menace, the DIG urged officers to adopt a mission-driven strategy under Operation SANJEEVANI to eliminate narcotics from society. He stressed the need for heightened vigilance to thwart anti-national activities and safeguard Jammu’s peaceful environment.
Ban on Glorification of Criminals:
The DIG issued strict instructions to take legal action against individuals or media platforms glorifying gangsters on social media, television, or online portals. The media fraternity was encouraged to expose criminal networks influencing youth negatively. Families harboring known criminals were warned of legal repercussions.
Special Operations to Combat Crime:
Several focused initiatives were discussed, including:
Operation CLEANUP (targeting gangsters)
Operation SANJEEVANI (NDPS control)
Operation PATHSHALA
Operation KAMDHENU
Operation AVTAR
Operation THIRD EYE
Operation MEGHDOOT
Officers were directed to adhere to Regional Police Headquarters (RPHQ) Jammu’s guidelines to maximize operational success.
Enhanced Surveillance and Naka Strengthening:
The DIG instructed officers to strengthen existing checkpoints (nakas), identify new strategic locations, and enhance coordination with intelligence agencies, including the Army, paramilitary forces, and central agencies. Active surveillance of Over Ground Workers (OGWs), history-sheeters, and habitual offenders was also mandated(DD)
