Dismantle Terror Ecosystem”: LG Sinha’s Message to Graduating Police Officers

LG Sinha: Cyber Crime and Narco-terrorism Biggest Challenges for Modern Police Force

Udhampur :TDD- In a first-of-its-kind event at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) Udhampur, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha laid emphasis on the changing contours of policing challenges as he addressed the graduation ceremony of 61 Deputy Superintendents of Police. The 16th batch included 45 male and 16 female officers.

“Today’s police force needs to be ready not only for the traditional security threats but also the new threats that are emerging in the digital space,” Sinha said while speaking at the function. He cited cybercrime as a rising issue, where criminal minds are exploiting technology for nefarious purposes. The LG laid stress on developing response mechanisms to respond quickly to digital threats and campaigns of misinformation.

Speaking about the region’s specific challenges, Sinha outlined a comprehensive strategy to combat militancy. “Our approach must go beyond conventional counter-terrorism operations. We need to dismantle the entire ecosystem that supports anti-national activities,” he stated. The LG also expressed serious concern about the rising threat of narco-terrorism, emphasizing the need to protect youth from drug abuse.

It is one of the biggest batches of female officers to graduate at the academy. The officers undergo very intense training on a range of issues that would help them navigate the complexities of modern policing such as cyber security, counter-terrorism operations, and community policing.

The director of SKPA said the curriculum of the academy has been constantly changing, which now includes special modules on digital forensics, social media monitoring, and advanced investigation techniques. “Our training program has been updated to meet contemporary challenges while maintaining our core values of service and integrity,” the Director noted.

The event culminated in a magnificent parade where the graduating officers proved themselves ready for their future positions. LG Sinha accepted the Rashtriya Salute and inspected the parade, thereby formally inducting these probationary officers into active duty.

The graduation of this batch comes at a crucial time when J&K Police is modernizing its approach to law enforcement, balancing traditional security needs with emerging challenges in the digital age. These officers will now join various units across Jammu and Kashmir, strengthening the region’s security apparatus and contributing to its peaceful development.

This new batch of officers represents the changing face of J&K Police, equipped with both traditional policing skills and modern technological expertise, ready to tackle the complex security challenges of the 21st century.TDD
