District Administration Kishtwar Engages Communities Through Ongoing Structured IEC Campaign on Drug Abuse

Diplomat Correspondent

Kishtwar, Under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Sh. Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), the District Administration is intensifying its grassroots outreach to address drug abuse through an ongoing, people-focused awareness drive conducted at the village and panchayat levels under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir initiative.

This widespread campaign, spanning all 13 administrative blocks of the district, has drawn active involvement from various segments of the community, including residents, students, teachers, youth groups, and local influencers.

The central goal is to educate citizens about the harmful impact of drug misuse and to inspire collective efforts toward achieving a drug-free (“Nasha Mukt”) environment.

Every Monday, awareness session events are being organized across different panchayats, featuring resource persons appointed by the administration.

These resource persons are drawn from eight key departments, such as Social Welfare, Health, Police, Education, and the Rural Development Department, among others. The sessions aim to maintain continuous engagement and provide meaningful education on the dangers of drug abuse directly to rural populations.

Today’s focus was on conducting these awareness drives in educational institutions, making schools and colleges the epicenters of change and learning. Here at the District Headquarters, the main program was held in Ward No. 13 at Mother’s Pride School, Kishtwar.

Throughout the day, dedicated nodal officers and nodal agencies led impactful information-sharing activities in multiple villages across all 13 blocks of Kishtwar District. These events promoted public dialogue and heightened awareness.

In view of the winter vacations, the campaign is now focused on gram panchayats.

The overall events are being organized under the able guidance of DSWO Kishtwar, Sh. Tariq Parveaz Qazi (JKAS), who is also the District Nodal Officer of NCORD.DD
