Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi Highlights Development-Oriented Reforms in J&K Waqf Board

Kishtwar, DD, J&K: Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi, has dismissed allegations of political interference in the Waqf Board, asserting that the body is now focused solely on transparency and development.

Addressing media in Kishtwar, Dr. Andrabi said, “There has never been politics in religion or Waqf. Those who ruled for decades are still looking at everything through a political lens. Today, the Waqf has become an institution of growth and service where everyone—irrespective of religion or political background—can contribute.”

Speaking about the Waqf Amendment Act 2024, she explained that the new provisions have been introduced to strengthen the management and infrastructure of Waqf properties. “Since 2022, the J&K Waqf Board has been functioning under the Waqf Act of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Central Waqf Council. The amendments are meant to enhance accountability and ensure the proper use of assets for public benefit,” she noted.

Dr. Andrabi further said that under the present administration, several developmental projects have been launched across J&K to restore and modernize Waqf properties. “People have realized that Waqf belongs to the community, not individuals. The era of personal control is over. We are building a system based on transparency, progress, and faith-driven service,” she added.

The Chairperson reaffirmed the Board’s vision to transform Waqf into a vibrant institution contributing to education, health, and community welfare across the Union Territory.DD
