Srinagar,(DD): Former Chief Minister and National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah expressed dissatisfaction over the prolonged delay in restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, holding the central government accountable. Speaking to reporters during his visit to the revered Hazratbal shrine on the eve of Mehraj-un-Nabi (SAW), Dr. Abdullah stated, “The delay is from the Centre, and only they can explain the reasons behind it.”

On the occasion, he also voiced deep concerns about the growing drug menace in the region, describing it as a “big mafia” being operated and distributed locally. “The drug chain in Kashmir is run by Kashmiris themselves, and this must stop. We need to break this chain to save our youth,” he said, urging collective efforts to combat the crisis.

Dr. Abdullah offered prayers at the Hazratbal shrine, where thousands of devotees had gathered to mark the holy occasion of Mehraj-un-Nabi (SAW), a day commemorating the ascension of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The event was marked by spiritual fervor, with people seeking blessings and unity for the region.

His remarks come at a time when issues of governance and public welfare remain at the forefront of political discourse in Jammu and Kashmir.(DD)
