Eid-ul-Fitr Frenzy Grips Kashmir: Markets Overflow as Festive Shopping Peaks

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD): As Eid-ul-Fitr draws near, Kashmir’s markets are witnessing an unprecedented shopping rush, with people flocking to buy new clothes, footwear, sweets, and household essentials. From Lal Chowk and Residency Road in Srinagar to vibrant bazaars in Anantnag, Baramulla, and Sopore, the festive spirit is in full swing.

“Eid shopping is a tradition we cherish. No matter how tough times are, the joy of buying new clothes for our children is priceless,” said Rubeena Jan, a mother of two, picking out outfits at a store in Srinagar.

Despite concerns over rising prices, people are determined to make the most of the occasion. Aamir Wani, a university student, expressed, “We have been saving up for this. Eid is about celebration, and shopping is part of the fun.”

Local shopkeepers are delighted by the surge in customers. Shabir Hussain, a garment trader, shared, “The rush has been overwhelming. It’s heartening to see such enthusiasm after a long time.”

Meanwhile, bakery and confectionery shops are also experiencing high demand. Bilal Mir, a bakery owner in downtown Srinagar, said, “People love to stock up on traditional sweets and bakery items for Eid. Orders have doubled compared to last year.”

Even amid inflation, Kashmiris are ensuring that the festival is celebrated with joy and grandeur. With just days to go, the excitement is only set to grow.(DD)
