Udhampur, J&K (India): A gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Basantgarh region of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir.
The operation was launched following credible intelligence inputs about the movement of a suspected terrorist group in the upper reaches of Basantgarh.
Accordingly, a coordinated operation was launched at 4 PM by the Indian Army’s Special Commandos (CIF Delta), troops of the White Knight Corps (16 Corps), the J&K Police, and the CRPF.
As the search parties moved towards the targeted area during the cordon-and-search operation, the hiding terrorists opened fire on the security forces, triggering a gunfight in the dense forest area.
Meanwhile, additional reinforcements have been rushed to the spot, and the cordon has been strengthened ahead of sunset.
The tactical operation is being carried out by elite units of the Indian Army under “Operation Kiya.” Till the filing of this report, the anti-terror operation was ongoing.
This is the second ongoing anti-terror operation in the Jammu region, where the Indian Army, along with other security forces, carried out a similar operation during a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) in the higher reaches of Kishtwar district.
In the past several weeks, the Jammu region has witnessed an increase in anti-terror operations, during which security forces have been able to corner terrorists. In one such operation, a Pakistani terrorist was killed in Billawar, Kathua district.
Presently, the security forces are conducting anti-terror operations in Jammu’s Kathua district, Udhampur district, and Kishtwar district, while patrolling and vigilance along the Line of Control and the International Border have already been enhanced.DD
