Srinagar, (TDD): A gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists at Nagmarg forest area in northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Officials told the Diplomat that an encounter broke out when the joint teams of forces launched a search operation in the area on the basis of specific inputs about presence of terrorists in the area.
“As the search party zeroed in on the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately at them, that was retaliated, leading to an intense encounter,” they said.
The intermittent firing was going on when the report was last filed.
Pertinently, this is the fifth gunfight in North Kashmir in less than a week after Bandipora, Kupwara and Sopore areas. Today’s encounter also comes amid spate of gunfights in Bandipora, Sopore in Baramulla, and the brief exchange in zabarwan forests of Srinagar where terrorists managed to flee. (TDD)
