Srinagar, (DD): A fierce gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Krumhoora village of Zachaldara, Kupwara district, today officials confirmed. The encounter is ongoing as security personnel attempt to neutralize the threat.
Acting on intelligence inputs about terrorist presence in the area, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the village. As the forces moved in, the militants opened fire, prompting retaliation and leading to a full-fledged encounter.
“The operation is being carried out meticulously to ensure minimal collateral damage. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to prevent any escape attempts by the terrorists,” an official source stated.
Kupwara, a district in north Kashmir, has witnessed intermittent militant activity due to its proximity to the Line of Control (LoC). Security forces have intensified anti-terror operations in the region in recent months to curb infiltration and eliminate sleeper cells.
