Bandipora,(DD): A fierce gunfight erupted between security forces and terrorists in the dense forest area of Kulnar Bazipora in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district today following credible inputs about militant movement in the region.

According to officials, a joint team of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area after receiving intelligence reports suggesting the presence of armed militants. As the forces zeroed in on a suspected location, they came under sudden fire from militants hiding in the thick foliage, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire.

The operation is ongoing, with security forces tightening the cordon to prevent the militants from escaping. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area to assist in the encounter. The rugged terrain and dense forest cover are reportedly making the operation challenging.

Authorities have not yet confirmed any casualties or the number of militants involved. The situation remains tense, and civilians have been advised to stay away from the area as a precautionary measure.

Further details will be shared as the operation progresses.(DD)
