Ex-Village Defence Guard found dead under suspicious circumstances in Udhampur

Udhampur,TDD,Ashok Kumar, a former member of the Village Defence Guards (VDG), was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the Chapper, Latti area of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir.

His body was found at some distance from his home, with a bullet wound that has raised doubts about the cause of death.

SSP Udhampur, Amod Nagpure, said: “The body of Ashok Kumar was found with a bullet injury, but it is not yet clear whether the shot was self-inflicted or if foul play was involved. A police team quickly responded to the scene, and the body was taken to a hospital for post-mortem examination.”

The circumstances surrounding Kumar’s death have prompted an investigation with authorities working to determine whether the incident was a case of suicide or a targeted attack. Given Kumar’s prior role as a VDG member, who played a key part in supporting security forces in the region, investigators are exploring potential motives.

This incident has caused alarm in the local community, especially among former VDG members who have been directly involved in counter-insurgency operations. Police have assured that a thorough investigation will take place to uncover the full details of the case-.(TDD)
