Anantnag, (DD):National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Friday expressed concern over the prolonged delay in the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, warning that his party may approach the Supreme Court if necessary.
Speaking at a public event in Anantnag, Abdullah said, “It’s been eight months since the J&K government was formed. I am hopeful that when statehood is restored, we will also get our administrative powers. But if delays persist, we will have no option but to go to the Supreme Court.”
The senior leader emphasized that while the National Conference continues to wait patiently for the Centre to act, the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve their democratic and constitutional rights.
Jammu and Kashmir was stripped of its special status and statehood in August 2019 and has since remained a Union Territory. Political parties across the region have repeatedly demanded the reinstatement of statehood and full democratic powers(DD)
