New Delhi, (DD) Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah, while speaking at the launch of veteran journalist Shahid Siddiqui’s book I, Witness, reflected on India’s evolving political and social landscape. He said he hoped the book would encourage readers to introspect on the nation’s transformation and the challenges that remain.

“I hope that people will read it and understand how much India has changed and how much more it still needs to change,” Abdullah remarked, underlining the importance of honest narratives in understanding the country’s journey.

Shahid Siddiqui’s I, Witness offers an insider’s account of Indian politics, society, and journalism, drawn from his decades-long career as a political commentator, editor, and parliamentarian. The book delves into critical moments in post-independence India, presenting eyewitness accounts of landmark events, policy shifts, and the personalities who shaped the country’s destiny.

Describing the work as timely, Abdullah noted that such narratives are essential to foster dialogue about India’s progress and the need for inclusive change. He added that the book captures not only history but also the continuing aspirations of millions of Indians.

The launch event brought together political leaders, journalists, and intellectuals, who hailed Siddiqui’s contribution to chronicling contemporary India(DD)
