Kishtwar/Rajouri, (DD)A severe windstorm struck parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday evening, causing damage to property and disrupting essential services in Kishtwar and Rajouri districts.
In Kishtwar, tin roofs were blown off at several locations due to the intensity of the wind. The storm also knocked out the 132 kV power supply line, plunging many areas into darkness.
Local authorities confirmed the impact and urged residents to remain indoors and vigilant. “Very heavy windstorm… tin roofs blown off at few places. 132 kV is off,” read a flash update from the district shared around 9:35 p.m.
The District Administration of Kishtwar has activated its emergency response system. Citizens in need of assistance have been advised to contact the Control Room at 9484217492.
Simultaneously, reports of partial damage to structures have emerged from some areas of Rajouri district as well. Assessment teams have been deployed to evaluate the extent of damage and initiate necessary restoration work.
Officials have assured the public that restoration efforts, especially related to power and essential supplies, are underway on a priority basis(DD)
