Jammu, (DD): A powerful windstorm that struck Jammu late last night left a trail of destruction, plunging large parts of the city into darkness and disrupting essential services. Residents across multiple localities woke up to widespread power outages and water shortages as strong gusts uprooted trees, damaged electricity poles, and battered public infrastructure.
The civil secretariat in Jammu suffered damage to its boundary wall, while several tent sheds and parked vehicles were also reported damaged in various parts of the city. The forceful winds led to the collapse of makeshift structures and blocked several roads with fallen trees and debris.
Electricity supply has been snapped in most areas since the storm began, severely impacting daily life. Officials said restoration work is underway, but cautioned that repairs could take time due to the extent of damage to power lines and poles.
Water supply in multiple localities has also been hit, adding to the residents’ woes. With electric pumps out of service and water storage capacities strained, authorities are under pressure to deploy alternate arrangements.
Local administration teams and disaster response units have been mobilized to assess the damage and begin clearance operations. Meanwhile, residents have been urged to stay cautious, especially in areas with hanging wires or unstable structures.
No casualties have been reported so far, but officials said a detailed assessment is still underway(DD)
