Doda, (DD): A fresh political storm has erupted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district following the registration of an FIR against sitting MLA Mehraj Malik, a vocal critic of alleged corruption and irregularities in the region’s healthcare system.
The FIR, filed by Dr. Madhu Chib, Associate Professor at Government Medical College (GMC) Doda, was lodged at Police Station Doda on May 29, 2025, at 4:00 PM, under FIR No. 0130. The case has been registered under Sections 356(2), 79, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
While the exact details of the complaint remain undisclosed, the timing and nature of the FIR have raised eyebrows across political circles, with many alleging that it is politically motivated.
Supporters of MLA Mehraj Malik argue that the FIR is a targeted response to his recent statements exposing a so-called “medical mafia” allegedly operating in the Doda and Kishtwar districts. The legislator has been vocal about the need for transparency and accountability in the functioning of government-run health institutions in the Chenab Valley.
The incident has also triggered a wave of reactions on social media, with activist Imran Shah calling for a broader conversation on corruption in the health sector and labeling the FIR a form of institutional intimidation.
As of now, no formal statement has been released by either MLA Mehraj Malik or GMC Doda regarding the incident.
The case is under investigation, and further developments are awaited.(DD)
